Essay #4 “The Power of Words”
Task: Over the course of the semester, we have concentrated on protest; how people protest, why they protest, and the varying methods of protest, for some it starts with an action, or a letter, or a social media post. Either way, individuals wanting social change create a moment of disruption by protesting the status quo. The Fourth essay and its subsequent exercises will explore and help you create your moment of disruption by writing about something that ANGERS YOU.
Option #1 – Essay Prompt:
For this essay, you are to write an academic, argumentative essay about something that angers you within our present day’s political, societal, or cultural climate.
You must also address to what extent your argument affects society and how your academic essay will join in the existing conversation about your topic. More importantly, however, your essay should offer a potential solution.
The topic of your argument is completely open. However, your argument must be something that you can take a clear position on and defend with a concise and narrowed thesis.
• Minimum 8-9 pages.
• You must cite a minimum of four sources.
• You must follow MLA guidelines throughout your essay. You will not receive a grade higher than a C if you do not follow MLA guidelines.
• Your essay should have a clear, concise thesis and subsequent cohesive paragraphs.
