Hip hop fashion essay

HIP HOP CULTURE

Hip hop is a form of popular music that is comprised of emceeing and deejaying. It also consists of forms of art such as graffiti and dancing through breakdancing. It originated in the Bronx by a Jamaican DJ named Kool Herc. He started from rapping in house parties where he progressed to being a disk jockey whose name has spread all over the world.

In some states, he is celebrated by playing some of his music meaning that he is indeed the founder of this genre of music. Hip hop represents a multi-billion dollar industry that influences everything from automotive designs to mass media marketing.

Hip hop started among the black community but later spread to all other communities in the U.S. over the years. It is however still considered a genre that encourages unacceptable behavior among the youth since most artists rap about theft, sex as well as drugs. The Christian community in particular is not a fan of this genre. This is not to say that there are no artists with positive messages.

Kids name rappers such as Nicki Minaj who is the most famous among hip hop lovers as the only outstanding female, Drake and Tupac among other few artists. An overwhelming majority however says that they listen to “gangsta rap” to pump them up. Get high or commit a crime. It has a certain negative impact on them, they say.

99% of kids get their music for free, online instead of through the purchase of cds. This may act out as negative to those artists who are not well known or advertised over social media leafing to only the prospering of already popular artists.

In this day and age of the freedom of expression, artists should watch out to avoid spreading the wrong message to their listeners as well as fans in the name of seeking fame.

Understanding police culture in the US

POLICE CULTURE IN THE US

Culture can be defined as the acceptable way of thoughts, beliefs, and behavior among and by members of a group.

In the U.S., the motto “Protect and Serve” is not just a lame one. Most people who join the force do it out of their love to help people and not as a career. This shows how police officers are dedicated to their work and are willing to work beyond man hours just to ensure peace and security prevails. Police training is designed to strip the individual of his previous status and make a police officer.

Once the individual wears the police uniform, they assume a state of power and authority that goes with the uniform. The police uniform, badge and gun are universal symbols of power and authority. They create a difference between them and the general public. There is an “us vs. them” mentality which insulates the police from the rest of the society. The police are the good guys whereas the rest of the public are potentially the bad guy.

Trust among police officers is paramount and they have created a spirit of brotherhood where morals are instilled and work ethics upheld. There are various ranks in the police department where the top most in the hierarchy is regarded the boss and assigns cases as well as duties to officers. Suspension of officers after misconduct is also done by the senior officers where the police badge and gun is returned for a certain period of time.

It is no secret that many police departments have issues with racism, homophobia and sexism. Women as well as homosexuals are still fighting to get a space into the “club”. Reports of sexual harassment either by seniors or colleagues have also been reported.

Despite the fact that the department has faced allegations of corruption, a commendable job has been witnessed in the past years and continues to be seen as time goes by.

How to get off academic probation

What is academic probation and the causes

This is the placement of students who have not reached the required GPA per semester in a period where they are required to improve their grades failure to which they face dismissal.

This is due to low grades. They are hereby given an opportunity to resit their exams also known as retaking them with an aim to getting better grades. The probation period ranges starts when it is given and ends at the end of the semester.

Those put on academic probation are advised to seek counseling to find out the reasons why they had poor grades in the first place. After this they are given means through which they can uplift their grades and how to avoid academic probation in the future.

Dismissal of a student is considered permanent and one can only be readmitted if they show a certain readiness to improve their academic status. Their readmission is done by the dean of students after he has proved this. A student who has been dismissed however has the option of transferring to another institution or pursuing other interests.

Academic probation in the U.K. however refers to a period when a new member of staff at a university or college is given their first job. This period of probation is monitored by a probationary officer who does not act as a mentor but meets the probationer formally for reviews where he monitors the work done and provides goals to be reached by the probationer.

Though the two types of academic probation differ in one way or another, during this period, the probationer is required to observe discipline and abide by the set rules of the institution. Everything they do is put under speculation to determine t heir fate.

Academic probation for students however should be avoided as much as possible during their course of study.

All students have a role to play in planning their future. I believe academic probation helps them in every way to stay alert and awake.
