Pop music influence on culture

POP MUSIC AND CULTURE

Pop is derived from the term “popular”. Pop music is therefore a genre of popular music which originates from the 1950s. It borrows from other styles of music like urban, dance, rock, Latin and country.

This style of music follows a specific format often the verse-chorus structure. It also features music instruments such as electric guitars and drums. The main goal of this music is to provide pleasure when listened to rather than having much artistic depth.  It has made use of technological innovation for example in the 1940s where the microphone design allowed a more intimate singing style.

Pop music has been dominated by the American and from the mid-1960s; British music industries joined the scene. The culture has been manifested all over the world through movies, music, television shows, newspapers and magazines. This is made possible by the fact that the entertainment industry is one of the most important spheres of economic activity. The industry generates more income from overseas sales than any other commercial industry.

The impact that pop music has on the youth is varied since types of music do differ from one artist to another. On average, American youth listen to music and watch music videos four to five hours a day which is more time than is spent doing any other activity.

With the growth of the pop music industry more songs with adult content are being produced and therefore the industry has made available warning labels as well as parental guidance notifications.

Music is and forever will be a part of life for us all. How it grows and its influence on us and our children is to be determined by the direction we let it take. Let  us therefore point it to the positive direction.

Firearms policy in the United Kingdom

Gun policy in UK 2018

In the United Kingdom, firearms are tightly controlled by the law. It therefore has one of the lowest rates of gun homicides in the world. About 7000 police officers have received firearms training therefore reducing the number of deaths that may occur as a result of improper gun use by officers.

Standard police firearms include semi-automatic carbines and pistols such as the Heckler & Koch G36, Heckler & Koch MP5SF, and Glock 17. The UK Violent Crime Reduction Act of 2006 controls online or mail-order sales of guns. Transactions must be carried out face to face.

The same act introduced the requirement that a person selling airguns or ammunition for airguns by way of trade or business be a Registered Firearms Dealer.

The age limit for buying or possessing a gun is 18 years. Any person who is in a building or on land and is trespassing in possession of a firearm commits the offence of trespassing with a firearm. This is whether or not he/she was actually planning on using the weapon.

With few exceptions, all firearms in the UK must be licensed on either 5-year firearm certificate or a shotgun certificate issued by the police in area where they reside. A person must have a good reason to own firearms. The case in the US is however opposite whereby death tolls as a result of illegal gun use.

Inadequacies in the US range from lax rules in registration, purchase or even transportation. One does not even have to have a permit to carry a gun. The US has the highest gun ownership rate in the world; an average of 88 per 100 people. This has led to increased crimes in the country as well as murders of all manner of citizens.

The US can indeed borrow a lot from the UK.

The affordable healthcare act pros and cons explained

THE AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE ACT

The bill was crafted by the United States house of representatives in November 2009 it however was not passed to become a law. With the Obama administration, the 11th congress devoted time to enacting reform of the United States health care system.

In December 2009, the Senate passed an alternative health care bill; the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. In 2010, the House abandoned its reform bill in favor of amending the Senate bill through a process known as reconciliation in the form of the health care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010.

If the legislation had been enacted it would include: prohibiting health insurers from refusing insurance coverage based on patients’ medical history as well as charging different rates based on gender, repeal of insurance companies’ exemption from anti-trust laws, establishing a National Health Care Workforce Commission to be composed of 15 individuals to assess healthcare needs and make recommendations to congressional leaders.

The Affordable Health Care Act is projected to provide more nursing jobs. It is considered one of the most perplexing health care arrangements in the business world, and that proper execution of health care in hospitals has been a huge obstacle for nurses.

The Law addresses health insurance coverage including the premium tax credit. The IRS administers tax provisions included in the law. Health Care law contains many tax and other provisions for employers.

With this type of act, all American citizens are offered health care services they can afford. It may not be perfect as of yet but is still a huge step.

Negative effects of illegal music downloading and piracy laws in the US

MUSIC PIRACY LAWS IN THE US

Piracy is the copying or production of similar work compared to original work put together by another individual. This may be an artist’s music, written work et cetera.

Copyright Law protects the value of creative work. When you copy someone’s creative work, you are taking something of value from the owner without their permission. This law applies to downloaded music and videos from the internet.

Federal Law provides severe civil and criminal penalties for unauthorized reproduction, distribution, rental or digital transmission of copyrighted sound recordings (Title 17, United States Code, sections 501 and 506).

Making unauthorized copies of copyrighted music recordings is against the law and may subject you to civil and criminal liability. A civil law suit could hold you responsible for thousands of dollars in damages; criminal charges may leave you with a felony record accompanied by up to 5 years of jail time as well as fines up to $250,000.

The need to get rich quick without actually working hard for it may be the main reason for piracy. It has led to the lack of progress of many artists’ careers since instead of selling their original work, their work is available everywhere at very cheap prices that they do not get any percentage of. It’s about time the pirators considered the work put in by artists. They deserve to earn the right way.

Be warned, copying music or downloading it from the internet and sharing it with friends is tantamount to piracy and can lead to prosecution in criminal court and or sued for damages in civil court. This is regardless of whether or not you did it for profit.

Informative essay on serial killers

Why do SERIAL KILLERS kill?

A serial killer is a person who commits murder of three or more people over a period of more than a month while taking breaks between the killings. The Federal Bureau of Investigation however regards a serial killer as a series of two or more murders committed as two different events with the killer acting alone.

The major cause of serial killing is related to the psychological health and state of the individual. Other cases involve sexual contacts with the victims. The cases however follow a certain pattern where the evidence directly links the killer to all of them.  The victims must have one thing in common; occupation, race, appearance, sex or even age group.

Psychopathic behavior includes; sensation seeking, lack of guilt or remorse, the need for control and predatory behavior. Psychopaths actually seem normal. They may actually seem really charming and it is easy to take to them.

This state of their being is related to physical, emotional or sexual abuse either by a family member or stranger in their childhood. They may also have experienced some form of bullying or social isolation as children or adolescents.

The way a child develops greatly influences their development later in life. When a child does not receive attention from their parents at a young age, they develop a sudden need to be appreciated and noticed later in life. Some of the serial killers kill for the sake of attention seeking.

Others who do not have the power to control the mistreatment they suffer end up creating a world which is unrealistic and escape the real world by shifting their state of mind to this “ other world” .

After committing the crime they follow it up, showing that they are really not in their right minds.
