HIP HOP CULTURE
Hip hop is a form of popular music that is comprised of emceeing and deejaying. It also consists of forms of art such as graffiti and dancing through breakdancing. It originated in the Bronx by a Jamaican DJ named Kool Herc. He started from rapping in house parties where he progressed to being a disk jockey whose name has spread all over the world.
In some states, he is celebrated by playing some of his music meaning that he is indeed the founder of this genre of music. Hip hop represents a multi-billion dollar industry that influences everything from automotive designs to mass media marketing.
Hip hop started among the black community but later spread to all other communities in the U.S. over the years. It is however still considered a genre that encourages unacceptable behavior among the youth since most artists rap about theft, sex as well as drugs. The Christian community in particular is not a fan of this genre. This is not to say that there are no artists with positive messages.
Kids name rappers such as Nicki Minaj who is the most famous among hip hop lovers as the only outstanding female, Drake and Tupac among other few artists. An overwhelming majority however says that they listen to “gangsta rap” to pump them up. Get high or commit a crime. It has a certain negative impact on them, they say.
99% of kids get their music for free, online instead of through the purchase of cds. This may act out as negative to those artists who are not well known or advertised over social media leafing to only the prospering of already popular artists.
In this day and age of the freedom of expression, artists should watch out to avoid spreading the wrong message to their listeners as well as fans in the name of seeking fame.
