Eating disorders can plague both males and females, and they generally have different unattainable physical appearance-related goals. Males may feel the need to develop large muscles and are more vulnerable to taking drugs or embarking on exercise regimens that move them in that direction. The 21st generation is characterized with surging eating disorder among the adolescents. About one out of two adolescents in America experience a certain type of eating disorder.

There are a number of effects that are associated with eating disorders among adolescents. Anorexia can lead to health problems due to under nutrition and low body weight. It may result in low blood pressure, low or irregular heartbeats, feeling tired, weak and dizziness, constipation and bloating, irregular periods among adolescent girls, weak bones and delayed puberty due to retarded growth. Anorexia also results in difficulties in focusing and concentration. Remembering things is associated with this disorder. It also results in constant mood changes and emotional problems like feeling alone, sad or depressed, anxiety and fears about gaining or losing weight and thoughts of hurting themselves.

Bulimia results to health problems caused by vomiting, laxatives and diuretics which include low blood pressure, blood in vomit and stool, tooth erosion and cavities swollen cheeks and irregular heartbeats. Adolescents with bulimia suffer emotional instabilities which results in low self-esteem alcohol and other substance abuse and self-destructive thoughts.

Binge eating leads to weight-related problems such as diabetes high blood pressure high cholesterol and triglycerides, fatty liver and sleep apnea.

Obesity is a health condition often ignored by many people. It is characterized by an excessive body mass index of 30 and more. Outwardly anyone with obesity has excessive fats making the victim prone to a myriad of health problems such as cancer and it can result in eventual death. Many today concur that obesity requires attention. A number of treatments exist ranging from change of behavior, dietary change, exercise and activity, prescriptive weight loss medication and weight loss surgery among others. This paper gives a critical look on managing obesity through a paradigm of health related behavior. The paper will also borrow much from one health behavior change theory.

Introduction.
Everything appeared normal with me despite being tagged biggy at college. I was never discouraged from my childhood hobby. I developed an incipient craving for food right from a tender age. Obesity seemed normal with me as it had never interfered with my everyday life. Insights into the topic got me weary. My adamant views were transformed when I got humiliated before my peers for my inability to participate in a friendly soccer match at college. I sought medical assistance from a nearby medical facility. The doctor ran multiple examinations that established i was obese. Weighing 110 kgs at 25 years shook my entire being. The doctor recommended behavioral change and exercise activities that enabled me to design a detailed weight loss program as highlighted below.
In order to attain realistic weight outcomes, i scheduled a weekly meal plan of breakfast, lunch and dinner that was to run infinitively until when a minimum of 0-5 kgs loss would to be observed. The design focused on adherence to calorie free foods and avoidance of foods rich in calories. This was to be supplemented with a rigorous weekly morning 6-7a.m and evening 5-6 p.m hourly trekking exercise whose objective was to complement the eating plan by assisting in burning out fats and calories. The trekking exercise was to record a daily observable weight loss by use of a weighing scale machine after each complete hourly cycle. It was expected that the overall outcome would represent a negative decline in body weight.

For several years a daily additional of weight bothered me much. Extra weight made me appear older than my actual age amongst peers. Perennially I often got ridiculed and offended by negative comments relating to my condition. However I never considered doing something meaningful about it. I kept up my eating hobby. Junk such as chips and protein rich meat were my delicacies. I decided to take a positive initiative about my extra weight with knowledge that it came with a improvement in someone’s health.
Research has established that obesity is a health hazard closely associated with deadly killer diseases such as cancer. The world health organization has classified obesity as a health condition rampant in the twenty first century. Obesity is detrimental to anyone’s clean bill of health. Anyone with obesity stands a high exposure risk of succumbing to diseases such as heart attack. The disease in self inflicted and it thus requires a positive mental reproach. I stand to benefit tremendously by managing my obesity condition. From a social economic perspective, I will no longer have to struggle to fit in the interactive scope with my peers. A substantial amount of money will be saved due to a reduction in unhealthy eating habits. Health wise I will be flexible in movement. My blood circulation will be enhanced as a result of reduction in fats which accumulate in veins causing constrictions in blood flow. Other internal body organs will optimize their functioning due to efficiency in the general coordination of the body system. Managed obesity will also improve my sexual life. Personally my initial medical records indicate a constant surge in weight since childhood. Going by this data, it can be predicted that if nothing is done to mitigate this i am more likely to add more weight. It is out of this that i decided to embrace the healthy behavior change as directed in the planned behavior theory. In the theory (Ajzen 1991) observes that not a single behavior is performed unconsciously, every behavior follows a programmed system embedded within everyone. The Theory explains that everyone has an ability to exert self control over everything that they do. It explains human behaviors through a behavioral intent; human intentions are directed by inherent attitudes in anticipation that the behavior will bring forth an expected outcome. The TPB is a tool to predict numerous health behaviors and intentions such as smoking health issues among others. The theory states that behavior change is determined by intention and behavioral control. It also categorizes three types of beliefs these are behavioral control and the normative. For one to control a behavior a six construct outlined as attitudes, behavioral intention, subjective norms, social norms, percieved norms and perceived behavioral control is used. I strictly followed the six construct which in the end recorded a sharp cut in my weight after one week.
Conclusion
Any health behavior change depended largely on an individual decision which equips one with a positive mindset to drive them along way into working towards achieving the expected outcome. A strict adherence to the guidance provided from the planned behavior theory guarantee positive results towards any behavior complications.

The major role that nutrition plays in our lives necessitates one to seek awareness on the various ramifications of certain nutritional intake contained in the five main food groups.

The body has both nutritional and caloric needs: nutritional needs refer to functions of replacing the cells, enzymes and molecules that are broken down in the body while caloric needs refer to the specific energy needs for the various chemical reactions in body cells. A healthy diet is one that contain foods from all the five food groups without being excessively loaded with only one particular nutrient group especially sugar and carbohydrates, salt and fats.

A balanced diet is the best strategy towards loosing weight and increasing physical performance. One should ensure to consume sufficient foods recommended in each of the five food groups. There are five food groups, which are fruits, vegetables, carbohydrates, protein foods and dairy products. The food groups are combined during each meal to provide the essential food nutrients of sugar and carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and minerals, fats and salt. Fruits encompass a wide range of fresh fruits and processed fruit products such as juices, dried and canned fruits. Fruits especially berries and melons are nutrient-dense and are rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber. Vegetables include fresh vegetable and processed vegetable products, as well as vegetable juices. Vegetables especially red, orange and green vegetables are rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber. Some legumes fall in the group of vegetables.

Grains comprise of whole grains such as wheat, rice and oats, and refined grains such as brown rice, oats quinoa and pasta, and some carbohydrate-rich legimes. These foods are high in carbohydrates and proteins. Processed or refined grains are enriched with other nutrients including fats and are rich in vitamin B.  Protein foods are mainly comprised of animal protein such as meats, chicken and eggs. Other protein foods are derived from plants especially legumes.

Dairy products including milk and yoghurt, cheese and butter, and are rich in protein and saturated fats.

It is important to make healthy food choices at school and in the workplace when presented with a food vending machine. These facilities pose a potential problem because they can lead to excessive intake of foods high in saturated fats, protein and sugar. Such foods are often low in fiber and other nutrients that can be found in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes. Vending machines can leads to dietary practices that lead to a high consumption of processed foods that were mostly high in animal protein and carbohydrates. It is important to avoid taking mostly processed and fast foods since they are usually high in fats and can often result in problems with excessive weight gain and obesity, an altered metabolism and difficulty in loosing weight, and a constant feeling of hyperventilation.

  1. FOODS HIGH IN FAT AND CHOLESTEROL AND IT IMPACT TO OUR BODIES

The American Heart Association warns against a diet high in protein and low in carbohydrates as it often has high-fat content and is usually lacking in essential nutrients like fiber and vitamins. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) ailments are the most significant of the non-communicable diseases causing up to one-third of all deaths globally. The lag-time effect for CVD risk factors suggests that previous exposure to the risk factors account for the disease’s currently high mortality rates. The risk factors for CVD include inappropriate nutrition, insufficient physical exercise and increased tobacco addiction, with people diagnosed as being overweight or having central obesity, high blood pressure, dyslipidaemia, diabetes and cardio-respiratory illness having a higher risk exposure to CVD. Unhealthy dietary practices of low consumption of vitamins and minerals found in fruit, high consumption of refined carbohydrates, alcohol, salt and saturated fats increase the risk of CVD.
