Find an article published in a journal related to your profession. Read the article carefully and write a 300-word analysis of the article.
If you are already familiar with a professional journal that is published in your career field, you may want to start by going to the website for that journal and seeing if they have any free articles that you can print off and read. If there is a particular professional topic that you would like to read about, go to the Goodwin College library homepage and type in your search term into the “single search” bar.
Once you find an article, print it out, read it carefully, and collect your thoughts about what the article says.
In the introductory paragraph of your review essay, briefly summarize the article, and then devote the body of your review to an analysis of the article that addresses at least some of the following questions:
What professional topic was the writer addressing?
How did the writer attempt to convince you of his, her, or their expertise and authority?
What did you learn from the article?
What questions did you have for the author?
What further questions does the article raise?
How might the writer’s ideas be extended in different directions?
Format your essay in APA style, and cite the article on your References page.
Find an article that discusses a topic you might be interested in investigating further for your research paper.
Identify the writer and title of the article early on in your review essay.
Limit your summary of the article to two or three sentences. The focus of your essay should be on your response to the article.
Consider writing two body paragraphs: one that focuses on the content of the article and another that focuses on the style the writer uses to communicate the content.
Conclude with a statement in which you evaluate the strengths and/or weaknesses of the article.
